Masculine Watercolored Shaker with Tupelo Designs LLC

Hey guys!  Todays card was created around the Art Impressions Cottage stamp and die set.  It was originally designed with a home interior scene to go behind it, but I wanted to see what else I could do with it.  Using the trees from another Art Impressions builder set, I created this scene with a guy card in mind.  I kept the colors more muted so that the bright interior shaker element would stand out and seem homey and welcoming.  I kept the sentiment simple and it could be changed to birthday, welcome home, or more of a formal sympathy statement.  Here is the link to my video on my YouTube channel and be sure to subscribe so you don't miss any card-making goodness.

Strawberry Shortcake

It's June, and in Michigan, that means it's Strawberry season!  There is nothing quite like biting into a just picked, still warm from the sun strawberry and I look forward to it every year.  Todays post isn't a card or canvas, it's a recipe for my version of Strawberry Shortcake.  I make a Citrus Yellow cake from scratch, macerate the berries with a bit of sugar and fresh orange juice and whip up a creamy cheesecake topping.  If you want to use a boxed cake mix, feel free!  I'll give some instructions for how to easily freshen it up.

Citrus Yellow Cake:

Citrus Yellow Cake

1 ½ sticks butter, at room temp
1 ¾ cups sugar
1 tsp salt
2 ½ tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla
4 eggs, plus 2 yolks
2 ¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 ¼ cups sour cream
¼ Five Alive or Orange juice concentrate
Zest of two oranges

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar, salt, baking powder, and vanilla until fluffy and light, about 5 minutes.

Add the eggs to the butter mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Slowly blend one-third of the flour into the creamed mixture, then half the sour cream, another third of the flour, remaining sour cream and juice concentrate, and remaining flour.  Scrape down the sides of the bowl, up from the bottom and the beater occasionally throughout the mixing process to ensure everything is incorporated properly.  Add zest and stir to distribute.

Pour batter into greased 13”x9” baking pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.  Cool completely before frosting or cutting.

If you're using a boxed mix, replace the water called for in the directions with the juice concentrate.

While the cake is baking, make the berries and cheesecake cream.

Macerated Strawberries:

1 pint fresh strawberries, washed, topped and sliced
2 tbsp sugar
juice of one orange or 2-3 tbsp.

Stir sugar and juice into the berries.  Using a pastry cutter, work the tool into the berries a few times, until roughly half the fruit is smashed and half are just sliced.  Taste for desired sweetness and add sugar if necessary.  Cover and refridgerate.

Cheesecake Cream
1 3oz pkg Cheesecake pudding mix
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 8 oz tub Cool Whip

Combine milk and pudding and whisk until thick.  Add Cool Whip and fold until combined.  Cover and chill until ready to serve.

Assembly:
Cut the completely cooled cake into 12 to 16 pieces.  Cut the piece in half width ways.  Place bottom half in serving dish.  Top with a spoonful of berries and top with a spoonful of cream.  Add second half of cake and repeat layers.  Serve and devour!
Enjoy!

Much love,
Jasmine

Glittered Vellum

Glittered Vellum

Welcome!  Todays card is quick, easy and gorgeous!  All you need is sheet adhesive, vellum, glitter and cardstock.  Click here for the video on my YouTube channel.  Let's get started!

Supplies:
SU Vellum cardstock
Stick-It adhesive sheets
Glitter Ritz glitters in Cool Highlight and Mystique
(Prima) Finnibair turquoise glitter
DCWV Copper Foil cardstock
Simon Says Stamp Heart Breeze die
Avery Elle Wonky Stitches die
Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks die
Doodlebug Black Velvet cardstock
SSS Black cardstock (base)

This technique is wildly versatile; you can change the die, the colors of glitter, the color foil, the card base color.  It allows you to really get creative with what's in your stash to come up with something beautiful.  You can use other adhesive sheets, but I like the Stick It specifically because it die cuts so nicely, even on both sides of the vellum.  It has become my go to for die cutting.

Thanks for stopping by and hanging out with me today!  Always happy to answer any questions you might have and I'd love to know what you think.  See you next time!

IndigoBlu Clematis Flourish 2 ways with Tupelo Designs LLC

IndigoBlu Clematis Flourish 2 ways with Tupelo Designs LLC

Hey there!  I have had this stamp hanging out in my studio for awhile and I figured it was time to try it out.  I'll give you a bit of backstory on why I have two cards in this post instead of one.  My first try was the green one on the left;  I didn't like it.  I stamped, colored and inked it but almost trashed it.  I posted a picture of it to my favorite Facebook group, My Inky Oasis, and a bunch of the girls encouraged me to finish it as they loved it.  So I added some yellow green inks to it, added a sentiment, some sequins (because sequins make everything better!) and finished it off with Wink of Stella Clear.  At the point of trashing the first one, I stamped the second one and loved the softness of the gray ink, but my Copics had blurred the lines of the flowers, so I needed a way to add the detail back in.  I've watched several of Kelly Latevola's videos and she outlines all of her images after stamping and coloring.  So I tried the technique with the blooms and bird; loved it.  I added some shadows and it made the flowers just jump off the panel.  Finished it off with clear droplets from Pretty Pink Posh and I had two finished cards. Here's the link to the video on my YouTube channel so you can see how I did things.

Supplies:
IndigoBlu Clematis Flourish
Momento Tuxedo Black ink

My Inky Oasis Orange Challenge Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the My Inky Oasis Blog Hop!   Orange was the color I picked for the MIO Challenge this month. If you want to start from the beginning, Laura's blog is the spot.

I wanted to make it challenging for myself and orange is a color I don't use often; to be honest, I don't use it at all.  Except for the occasional rainbow, I tend to lean towards purples/blues/pinks, so it was time to spice things up.  I also just got a gorgeous Rainbows and Sunshine kit from PTI, so I came up with this sunshiney, textured, and ink blended beauty.  My video is at my YouTube channel, which is linked here and I'd love it if you wanted to subscribe and let me know what you think!  Here's the supply list if you want to CASE it ;)

Supplies:
PaperTrey Ink Rainbows and Sunshine card kit
Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock
Prima Art Basics Light Paste
