Watercolor Emboss Resist Birthday with Moody Unicorns

 Unicorns and birthdays are best friends, so I decided to put them together in honor of one of my besties, Jen.  We met in college, became best friends and never looked back!  I started by making my own patterned paper by randomly stamping and heat embossing the larger unicorn images followed by filling in with the smaller images in the stamp set, the cupcake and little present.  Using watercolors to add pops of brightness helped each image stand out without looking overdone and the die cut sentiment finished things off nicely.  I chose a foil paper for my sentiment because it adds a contrasting finish and texture, which adds easy interest.  Here's the video tutorial and supplies are listed below!  Happy Birthday Jen!!

Penguin Watercolor Ombre Emboss Resist with Gerda Steiner Designs

 Hello and welcome everyone!  Today we are playing with those sweet Valentine Penguins from Gerda Steiner Designs again.  This time, we are creating our own patterned paper with heat embossing.  Add some simple watercolor and viola.  We have an adorable and versatile panel that is perfect for so many different occasions.  The same technique can be used for almost any stamp set in your aresenal as well, so bust them out and get creative.  Here's the video on my Youtube channel and my supplies are listed below.

Handmade Christmas 2017: Easy Watercolor cards with Koi and Fine-Tec Metallics

 It's the fourth post in my Handmade Christmas 2017 series and I have 4 easy watercolor cards that are perfect for mass production.  I used 1 stamp set, 3 watercolor palettes and 1 sheet of 9x12 watercolor paper.  You don't have to be a master watercolor artist to make these cards.  If you can move a brush from side to side, you can make these.  Easy peasy. I wanted to keep products to a minimum by using them in different combinations on each card so that you get variety without needing/using tons of different things.

Versatile, Soft and Easy Watercolor Birthday

Versatile, soft and easy, this card is quick and lovely.  It really is as simple as stamp, paint, let dry, and attach to a cardbase.  Versatile because you can change the sentiment up as you need to; thinking of you, hello, congratulations or sympathy.  Sometimes I leave the front of my cards without a sentiment and write my message on the inside. 
Try not to get caught up with the thought that to create what you see in a video, you have to have what the artist is using.  You don't.  If all you have is your kids Crayola, rock it out!  The point is to create, have fun, relax and play.  If you want to get better, keep practicing.  Monet practiced too.

I have not used the Starry Colors palette, however I do love their regular watercolor palette and do recommend it.  There are several YouTube videos comparing the two if you are interested.

2015 Christmas Project Series Day 9: Ribbon Doll by Infinity Engraving

 

Hello! Today's project is this lovely lady.  She is a Ribbon Doll from infinity-engraving.com and I've named her Scarlett.  She's made of deeply etched wood and comes with two chipboard pieces to attach the ribbons to make her skirt.  She comes blank, or plain, and just about any medium will work to color her with the exception of alcohol markers.  I'm pretty excited about this project, as it's my first project for Infinity Engraving as a member of their design team.



I started with Scarlett's hair.  She has a vintage Hollywood vibe about her, so I started with her hair using tones of gold, copper and auburn.  I used Fine Tec Watercolors, which have a ton of mica to provide such a high shimmer.  I painted her hair over the raw wood, not bothering to use any gesso and I think the brown tones of the wood serve to ground the colors of her hair.  Roses and pearls are the perfect touch for her glamorous look.  Using small paper roses, I colored two with Dylusions Post Box Red spray and Gold Color Shine spray by Heidi Swapp.  I left one white so that it would pop and attached them with hot glue.  I finished her hair with a tiny red and black feather from my stash and added a string of flat-back self-adhesive pearls.  She has a pearl earring and red jewel choker necklace.

Her skirt is red, burgundy, cream, white and gold.  I used a few seam binding ribbons from Prairie Bird Boutique on Etsy.  The rest are ribbons and laces from my stash.  I attached all the ribbons and laces in layers using hot glue.

For her dress and skin, I applied 3 coats of gesso.  Once dry, I used flesh toned paint for her skin and an irridescent gold watercolor  (same Fine Tec palette) over the gesso on her dress so that it looks white in one light and flashes gold when you move it.  SO PRETTY!

I just love how she turned out.
