10 cards using Foils, Transfer Gel and a Laminator

Hello!  Todays video has 10 cards in it with a simple foiling technique that is quite versatile and will help you get more out of the dies you already have in your stash.  I didn't new any of my newer dies for this; they're all a few years old.  My goal with this card design was to think outside the typical and find new uses for my stuff.  I used transfer gel and heat-transfer foils for these cards, so you'll need a laminator.  However, you don't need one that is uber expensive.  Mine was $18.  A cool thing about these foils is that you can usually get at least 2 cards out of a sheet of foil and I'll show you how to use the negative.  I had so much fun designing and creating these cards, so lets get started.  Using older products in videos, sometimes things have been discontinued and I came across that issue with this video.  I've done my best to find similar products to serve the same purpose although they may not be identical.  Here's the link to the video on my YouTube channel and my supplies are listed and linked below.

Spring Themed Cards Collaboration with Gerry from Gerry's Craft Room Part 1

 Hello there!  I don't know about you, but I am so excited that it's finally warming up outside.  We have had the weirdest weather in the Midwest over the past few weeks, but I think it's safe to say it's SPRING!  Gerry, from Gerry's Craft Room and I decided to do a little collaboration.  We each created backgrounds and exchanged them so that I could finish the cards with her backgrounds and she finish cards with my backgrounds.  And without discussing what we'd use, both reached for Distress Oxide inks.  Both cards could be gender neutral, especially if your guy likes birds.  The second one with the cupcake, was made with my husband in mind, as it was his birthday around the time I was crafting and he loves loves loves cupcakes.  The colors Gerry used in the background made it perfect for a masculine design, so I carried that through with a Tim Holtz Blueprint stamp and bold die cut letters for the sentiment.
Usually, when I do collaborations with other artists on YouTube, I have footage of the creations of my backgrounds and the completed cards.  However, for this project, the gremlins got my footage.  So while I can't show you how I created them, I can list what I used.  Sorry! Gerda Steiner Designs DT Valentine Penguins with Copics and Distress Oxides

 Todays project is the another card I created as a guest designer for Gerda Steiner Designs.  My idea for this one was penguins on the tundra with happy greetings and the penguin holding the balloon fit in perfectly.  The bottom snow panel can be created two ways.  The first is by using white glitter cardstock cut to size freehand or with a die, which is what I did.  The second is to cover piece of white cardstock with Versamark and heat emboss using white glitter embossing powder.  If you're not into glitter, you could just use white cardstock.  The background was made with 3 shades of blue Distress Oxide inks.  If you aren't familiar with them, they are a hybrid of dye and pigment inks, giving them super easy blending and there are several fun techniques you can do with them (but that's another post).  The penguins were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic markers, then fussy cut.  I don't have the dies yet and these are fairly simple shapes to cut out.  The penguin with the balloon is one image, but I just cut them apart to avoid trying to cut out the string.  Instead, I fussy cut the balloon and penguin and stamped a swirly dash line from another stamp set in my stash for the balloon string.  That allowed me to have more flexibility with placing the penguin and balloon as well as the ability to add dimension by popping it up with foam squares.  I have a video tutorial on my YouTube channel if you'd like to see how this project came together from start to finish and my supplies are listed and linked below.

Handmade Christmas 2017 using Concord & 9th, Ink Blending and Heat Embossing

 For the entire series this year, I wanted to challenge myself to create all new designs with stamps and dies that I already owned.  I didn't buy a single new release.  Not because there weren't any that I liked; there were plenty of lovely designs available.  It was because I needed to reign in superfluous spending and there's a lot of folks who simply can't go buy all the pretty new things.  So I made due.  And it was fun!  I discovered how many stamp sets I have bought but never used and how versatile non-Christmas sets can be.  The Cozy Up set by Concord & 9th is a Valentines set, so why not make a Christmas card with a romantic vibe?  I ended up putting both cards in one video because the footage gremlins stole enough footage so that I couldn't make 2 videos and they are quite similar, so it fit together anyway.  Here's the link to the video on my YouTube channel and the supply list is below.

You're A Hoot by Brutus Monroe

 Todays post is a 2 for 1 deal!  I've made 2 cards with similar styles using the Brutus Monroe You're A Hoot Inspiration Box and I love each of them.  The Inspiration Box is basically a card kit that includes a stamp set, cardstock, dies, embellishments, stickers and an ink cube but goes a step further to include toner prints that you can foil using a laminator.  Super cool.  This certainly has a fall color scheme to it, but the stamp set and owl die are usable all year.  I have a few ideas for Christmas cards too.  I hope Brutus Monroe makes the toner sheets available as a stand alone item in their shop because they are so versatile and cool.

Beach Day Slider

I'm squeezing this fun and sunny slider card in at the tail end of summer because I can!  And to be honest, this summer went by so stinking fast, so lets get started.  We have Copic coloring, ink blending, heat embossing and a slider feature.  If you're new to card-making, a project like this can seem daunting and complicated.  However, like most things, when you break it down into individual steps, it's simple and straight forward.  The sand, wave and sky are simple ink blending.  The sand and wave are die cut.  The wave is heat embossed with glossy clear embossing powder.  The critters, sun and castle are stamped, colored and die cut.  I stamped two of the hippo with the second to color and fussy cut just the watermelon and hand section to pop it up on the finished card.  Now we have all of our components. 
Die cut the slider channel from the wave piece and build the support on the back with foam tape.  Lay the wave and sand over the sky so that the wave peeks up behind the sand while the slider channel remains hidden.   Attach slider discs to the back of the elephants feet and place him in the slider channel.  Insert the elephant and move him back and forth to see how he looks and if you like the placement.  Stamp and heat emboss the sentiment at the top left corner of the sky.  Add foam tape to the back of the sand so that it doesn't interfere with the slider mechanism.  Adhere each critter, sun and castle and the card is complete.

Starry Sky for Scrapbooking with M.E. Boutique

 Hey guys!  Todays post is my final Guest DT project with Scrapbooking with M.E. Boutique.  This card is fairly simple.  We have some ink blending using colors from the second set of the Distress Oxides with a stencil and some BoBunny Glitter Paste over the top.  What I love about the glitter paste is that it picks up the color of whatever ink you put underneath it, so it looks almost as if it's lit from behind; such a cool effect.  To finish it off, I added a strip of gold on the left side to tie in the gold on the die-cut sentiment.  Simple, yet stunning.  This technique offers such a plethora of variations, so I encourage you to break out you inks and stencils to see what you come up with.

From Backgrounds to Cards

 A few weeks ago, I posted a video on backgrounds using Distress Oxide re-inkers.  Todays post gives you some ideas for using those backgrounds in card projects.  For the top card, I really loved the rainbow effect and wanted it to be the focal point so I kept it simple with a sentiment and a few sequins.  For the bottom card, I used a stencil and some black glitter paste to add some impact while bringing the rainbow colors forward.  To finish it off, I added a die cut and heat embossed sentiment and mounted to a card base with some gold foil paper as a mat to tie in the gold in the die cut.

One Layer Watercolor Peony

 There's tons of tutorials available with the Distress Oxides and I was curious to see how they worked with the original Distress inks, so I combined Distress Oxide reinkers with original Distress reinker using the ink dipping technique.  I loved the results.  I loved the blend of colors, the textural differences between the ink finishes, the soft watercolor look and the mix of hard and soft edges that are hallmarks of watercolor.  Wanting the watercolor to shine, I kept the rest of the card simple with some flowers and a clean sentiment and mounted to a white cardbase.  Here's the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Bee Popcard by Art Impression with Copics and Distress Oxides

 I'll be honest, this card...I got frustrated with this card and I'm sure we've all been there with projects we just about gave up on.  However, it's so dang cute and I had already put a lot of work and supplies into it, so I kept going.  As much as I love Art Impressions, someone dropped the ball with this set.  They don't provide clear instructions and there are stamps with coordinating dies that I couldn't figure out what they were supposed to be.  But don't let that stop you.  Hopefully, my video will make your bee building a breeze, as I've tried to work out some of the kinks.  The stamps and coordinating dies come together, but you do need a separate template die to build your bee.  Here is the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Under the Sea with a Distress Oxide Background

 Summer is beginning to wind down, but it's not over yet.  I've been playing with my Distress Oxide re-inkers to see what they can do and created a few backgrounds (here's the video with those).  Stamping Bella had a new release in the beginning of July with Mermaids, fishes and lots of other sea life which I couldn't resist.  Flipping through my backgrounds and going through some new stamps, these two just fit together like sun and sand.  I colored my images with Copic markers and created a Shaker card with elements on the inside and outside to create a bit more dimension.  If you are new to Copics or are interested in learning more about them, I highly recommend Sandy Allnock's Copic Jumpstart class at art-classes.com.  Here is the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Leather Look Father's Day with Distress Oxides and Concord & 9th

Sunset Flights with Distress Oxides, Concord & 9th and Impression Obsession

 Hello there!  Sunsets are among my favorites of God's artistry in nature and is what inspired this project.  Using three colors of Distress Oxides, ink blending and ink lifting, I created the background, added the butterflies on top and finished it off with a heat embossed sentiment.  This project is  simple, quick and easy with gorgeous results that you can use for just about any occasion: birthday, encouragement, illness, sympathy or thinking of you.

Embossed Resist with Distress Oxides, MFT and Concord & 9th

 Trying out the new Distress Oxides has been so much fun and todays project is no exception.  These inks are a hybrid between pigment and dye inks, so they have the properties of both.  They heat emboss beautifully, blend seamlessly and easily and because they're the Distress formula, you can do all those delightful techniques as well. 

 Using a 6x6 MFT background stamp, I layered the inks across it on the diagonal and stamped it.  Using a MISTI here is an excellent idea, just in case you miss a bit (you'll see in the video where I did it).  After heat embossing it in clear, I went in and ink blended over the top to make the background stamp really pop.  The background was really vivid and I didn't want to detract from it, so I kept my finishing touches simple with the die cut sentiment and vellum butterfly.  Here's the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Blessed Butterfly with Distress Oxides, Nuvo and Concord & 9th

 Bonjour! I just saw the new Beauty and the Beast movie and the opening song has been on repeat in my head and I'm not complaining.  I have always LOVED the animated version and couldn't wait to see the live action, which absolutely did not disappoint.  Anyway, we're here for a card, so let's get started.  Frankly, this project started out as an experiment with the Nuvo embellishment mousse.  I liked what I had, so, when in doubt, add ink!  My new Oxides were sitting on my desk along with the Concord & 9th sets and this card was born.  I was excited to see how the Oxides would work with heat embossing and they're beautiful.  I positively loved the background and didn't want to cover it up, so I went with Vellum for the butterfly and an open and airy sentiment. 

 I wish you could see how beautifully the glitter embossing shines on this butterfly.  Pictures just don't do it justice.  A few sequins add the perfect finishing touch.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel of you'd like to recreate this card at home.  My supply list is below.

Bronzey Blue Beauty with Distress Oxides and MFT

 This is one of those rare cards that requires little else and is better for it's simplicity and minimalist design.  I can't really claim that as my intention, it just happened that way, but don't tell anybody.  It's our little secret.  Initially, I imagined this as a shaker card, but the blue and bronze were just perfect together and didn't need anything else.  I kept it simple with a small banner, die cut sentiment and a scattering of sequins to finish it off.  If your guy enjoys botany or a flower garden, leave off the sequins and it would be a great guy card too. 

 I layered two shades of Distress Oxide inks to get a faded denim look and used ink-lifting to get the look of bleach spots.  With the regular Distress inks, the spots would look more white, but with the Oxides, they maintain their color and add opacity, but lighter.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel if you want to see how to recreate this at home and my supply list is below.

Masculine Ink Dipped Design with Distess Oxide Inks

 If you've played with the regular Distress inks before, you're probably familiar with the ink-dipping technique.  I used that technique with this card, but as you can see, the results are a little different; the layers stand out more, no muddying of the colors, and the colors are just as vibrant.  Distress Oxides are a hybrid between dye ink and pigment ink.  They have opacity and dry to a chalk-like finish because of the pigment ink with vibrancy and reactivity to water that we're familiar with in the original Distress because of the dye ink.  I had a lot of fun playing and creating with them and I think you will too!

I didn't include this card in the video because I lost all my footage (gremlins!).
This one is a very simple masculine design with 1 stamp, ink blending and 2 die cuts.  It's perfect for all the dudes in our lives that don't want a lot of fuss.  Starting with a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock I did the ink blending first.  Using my MISTI, I stamped the barnwood stamp in SSS Dark Chocolate ink and ran it through my Big Shot with a MFT Wonky Stitches die to give it a finished edge.  I added Stick-It to the back of a scrap of black velvet cardstock and a scrap of wood veneer paper to die cut a banner and the hello sentiment.  My cardbase is W+9 Oatmeal cardstock.  I adhered my panel down to the cardbase with Scor-tape, layered the sentiment over the banner and was finished.  My supply list is below!
