Brutus Monroe and Arteza Brush Pens Watercolor

 Is that a gorgeous rose or what?  Sometimes it's nice to get a little lost in coloring and the Enchanted Rose from Brutus Monroe is nice and large, so it allows you to take a little time and wander through a rose garden of your own making.  I've always loved coloring because you can do what you want.  Blue horse? Sure, why not?  While this rose may never appear in nature, it's lovely and wonderful and fun.  I had fun trying out the Arteza Brush Pens on this project.  They're a water based ink and are very similar to Zig clean color markers and you can use them interchangeably as well as together, which I did in the lavender rose in the top left corner.  Because there's lots of lovely bright color going on in the rose, I kept the rest of the card simple.  Head over to my youtube channel for the video tutorial and my supplies are listed below.

Watercolor Emboss Resist Birthday with Moody Unicorns

 Unicorns and birthdays are best friends, so I decided to put them together in honor of one of my besties, Jen.  We met in college, became best friends and never looked back!  I started by making my own patterned paper by randomly stamping and heat embossing the larger unicorn images followed by filling in with the smaller images in the stamp set, the cupcake and little present.  Using watercolors to add pops of brightness helped each image stand out without looking overdone and the die cut sentiment finished things off nicely.  I chose a foil paper for my sentiment because it adds a contrasting finish and texture, which adds easy interest.  Here's the video tutorial and supplies are listed below!  Happy Birthday Jen!!

Penguin Watercolor Ombre Emboss Resist with Gerda Steiner Designs

Handmade Christmas 2017: Scraps and Die Cuts

 As you may have noticed, there's no stamping in todays cards.  It's all scrap papers and die cuts so we not only use up otherwise unusable excess, but also give ourselves a creative stretch.  I have all sorts of different papers in these cards; glitter, foil, patterned paper, wood veneer, velvet and shimmer.  To add interest and flair, mix up your finishes.  Varying the textures also gives depth and dimension to the finished product.  You also want to pay attention to widths.  Place wide pieces next to skinny pieces so that you draw the eye and add interest.  You can make these any size too.  I went with the standard 4.25" x 5.5", but the size is only limited by the length of your scraps.  This technique also works for absolutely any occasion and it's perfect for guy cards.  I have strips as thin as 1/8" and as wide as 3/4".  I used my paper trimmer to cut strips down and trim off any torn or crooked edges.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supplies are listed below.

Magical Halloween with Darcies and Zigs

 Happy Halloween friends!  Halloween is one of those holidays that people seems to love or don't really care about.  For me, Halloween is my birthday and was so much fun as a kid, but is just another day as an adult; for me, it's getting one step closer to Christmas that's the exciting part.  However, when I came across this stamp set with a Unicorn perched upon a jack-o-lantern, I couldn't resist.  I made 3 cards with it in one evening in my studio and the cute factor is unreal.  All three cards will be in 2 videos, so don't forget to hit the subscribe button over on my YouTube channel ;)

In the video, I used Arches green label watercolor paper, but I think it's too absorbent for the Zig markers, so I listed Canson paper instead.  It's a good quality student-grade paper that works well with the Zig markers and is reasonably priced as well as available at any craft store and online.  Because we're stamping on watercolor paper, which as a bit of a texture to it, you're going to need a MISTI.  I say that because you will need to stamp it several times to get a solid outline and using a MISTI will make that possible.  I've tried re-stamping without it and no matter how sure I was that I was lined up properly, it seldom actually was and I ended up with weird lines.  I am specific to the MISTI because it is a small business and the original inventor of the product.  Other companies have shamefully stolen her design and produced copycats, but I can't support them just because they're cheaper.  Theft is wrong.  Period.

Bee Popcard by Art Impression with Copics and Distress Oxides

 I'll be honest, this card...I got frustrated with this card and I'm sure we've all been there with projects we just about gave up on.  However, it's so dang cute and I had already put a lot of work and supplies into it, so I kept going.  As much as I love Art Impressions, someone dropped the ball with this set.  They don't provide clear instructions and there are stamps with coordinating dies that I couldn't figure out what they were supposed to be.  But don't let that stop you.  Hopefully, my video will make your bee building a breeze, as I've tried to work out some of the kinks.  The stamps and coordinating dies come together, but you do need a separate template die to build your bee.  Here is the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Leather Look Father's Day with Distress Oxides and Concord & 9th

Father's Day is certainly one of those occasions that requires a masculine design and it can be a challenge to create something different every year.  Woodgrain is a texture that is perfect for masculine cards, but I wanted to do something different and thought of leather.  I combined the emboss resist technique and ink blending with Distress Oxide inks to create this card and I really love how it turned out.  Here's the link to the video on my YouTube channel and my supplies are listed below.

Text Hugs with Concord & 9th

 I've been on a roll with Concord & 9th products lately; I just can't help it.  I get so many ideas and it's hard to narrow it down sometimes.  That's not a bad thing though.  Hopefully, my ideas and designs will inspire your ideas and designs and we'll all be happier as a result.  The world needs more cuddles and hugs anyway.

This card started with having the hugs die cuts left over from other projects, whose videos are linked below if you're curious, and using gray helped to ground the card as well as help the teal and purple tones stand out.  The tone on tone gray text background served to soften the design as well as give it a coziness.  To create the frame, you can use any two rectangle dies; just make sure they're spaced evenly before you run it through your die cutting machine.  Here's the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Soft and Loose Watercolor Mother's Day Hugs Shaker with Concord & 9th

 We are almost half way through the year already and while I'm wondering where the time has gone, Mother's Day has quietly crept up.  I have three Mother's Day cards to make every year and I enjoy the creative challenge of doing something different.  Traditionally, flowers make an appearance and while my Mom and both MIL's enjoy flowers, I went a another direction.  This design is really versatile, perfect for birthday, thinking of you, encouragement and sympathy.  Starting with white embossing on watercolor paper, I used powdered watercolor paints to create a loose and soft emboss-resist background.  After that was dry, I die cut the "hugs" and the border edge detail.  To finish it up, I stamped an accompanying sentiment in the bottom right corner, built the shaker and mounted it to a card-base.

It's All About the Layers: Layered Stamping AND Layered Stenciling

The Pretty Petals stamp and die sets by Concord and 9th were sitting on my desk and it gave me the daydream of a tropical vacation.  This is a layering stamp set and would be beautiful in endless color combinations.  The trick to remember with layering sets is that you want to use your lightest color first and work towards your darkest color.  Using a MISTI makes these sets super easy to be successful with and so much fun.  I've also layered the stenciling in the background with ink blending and texture paste, opening up another area of endless possibilities.  What stencils do you have that would look awesome layered?  It's such an easy way to add color and texture to your projects.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and my supply list is below.

Ink Blended Angel

 Hey there!  One layer cards aren't something I tend to do, but this design is probably as close as I get.  I wanted to do something soft and easy and these colors are what I tend to gravitate towards.  If you have trouble with ink blending, here's a few things to try. A) Lessen the pressure of your hand with the blending tool.  Less pressure means less friction between the tool and the paper leading to easier gliding over the surface.  B) Hold your tool at a slight angle so that the full surface of the tool is not on the surface of the paper.  C) Layer your colors where they meet.  Go back over where two colors meet with each color.  This will help to blend out any edges or tool marks and help to brighten each shade.  D) Practice your blending.  It doesn't go perfectly the first time for anyone and the more you practice the easier it will become and you'll get the hang of it.  I used Distress Inks for this project.  They are designed to work with the techniques I used.  Every brand of Dye ink pad the I've tried has worked with the ink blending technique, but not all of them with work with the stencil and ink lifting technique so I would try them on a scratch piece before your card project to make sure.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel and all my supplies are listed below.

Polar Birthday Slider with an Alcohol Ink background

Hey there!  I have such a charming project to share with you today.  I started off with the Let It Snow set by The Greeting Farm.  It's a winter themed set and prefect for cold weather outdoor fun and isn't isolated to Christmas, but can be used for Christmas as well.  I love how the penguins are drawn in action.  One is walking toward you and the other is sitting on his bottom, so I chose to color him as if he was sliding across the ice and having a great time.  For the background, it's quite a simple technique and once you try it, you'll not only love it, but also get tons of ideas for different color combinations to use!  Make an effort not to get frustrated if you can't get exactly the same background twice; each one will turn out a little different.  I keep ones I don't like so much to die cut words and shapes out of.  When using metallic mixatives with this technique, it can resist stamping over the top.  An easy way around that is to heat emboss or stamp several layers when using dye inks and Archival works well (the MISTI comes in very handy here).  In the video tutorial on my YouTube channel I demonstrate all the Copic coloring as well as the Alcohol Ink background and how to build the channel for the slider mechanism using foam tape.    My supply list is below.

Winter Cabin Ink Dipped Christmas Tag with Infinity Engraving LLC

Hey y'all!  Todays project is a Christmas Tag featuring chipboard snowflakes from Infinity Engraving LLC.  I make a variety of these tags every year and give them as gifts to use as Christmas ornaments.  I try to personalize them, especially for the kids, and you can make them as elaborate or as simple as you want.  I start these with an ink dipping technique and heat dry them.  Expect it to curl up as you heat dry it; it will flatten back out as it dries.  If it's still cool to the touch, it's not dry yet.  Having the tag completely dry is important before moving on to the next step.  If you stamp on cardstock that isn't quite dry, the image can blur out and lose the crisp edges.  After stamping the cabin, I stamped and heat embossed my sentiment.  If the tag was still wet or had any moisture anywhere, the embossing powder would stick where we didn't want it and that can ruin the project.  Here is the link to the video tutorial on my YouTube channel if you want to see how to make this project and learn the techniques I used.  My supply list is below.

Monster Mash Halloween with Infinity Engravings LLC

 Hello and welcome!  Here is my second DT project with a Halloween theme.  The image is another from Sasayaki Glitter and the bat is chipboard from IE.  After downloading and resizing my image in Word, I printed it out on Copic friendly cardstock, die cut it, then colored in the image.  I made a copy and fussy cut it out and then placed it over the colored image with repositionable adhesive.  Placing the stencil over the top, I did some ink blending over the background using a back and forth motion rather than a circular motion.  I die cut my sentiment from black velvet cardstock and adhered them with liquid glue.  I covered my bat with Versamark and heat embossed him using black ultra-thick embossing powder and added two layers of black glitter embossing powder to add some dimension.  A scattering of sequins finished off our happy little troupe of trick-or-treaters.  My supply list is below.
